News has broken out that director Colin Trevorrow has exited from Star Wars Episode IX production. While no further information about why Colin has left Lucasfilm has provided this message:
“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”
Colin has previously directed Jurassic World and has more recently directed The Book of Henry. No news yet has emerged on who shall take over this film, however it is a big question on whether or not who will eventually take over this big production. This news can be paralleled with the departures of Phil lord and Chris Miller, but whether or not the departure of Colin is personal is another outstanding question.
Despite no new director being announced there has been a new writer on the production, Jack Thorne. While this is unfortunate news we can see this as opportunity for something even better, and hopefully not something for the worst.
Star Wars Episode IX is slated to released May 24, 2019 while Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to release December 15 of this year
